Saffron to Chocolate Adventure!

Year round - Monday to Thursday (Saturday/Sunday by request and subject to availability)

This adventure runs with a minimum of 6 people.

(This experience is only available with a minimum two night stay at a Windswept.ca B&B)

 

Ever wondered about Saffron and the fine art of Chocolate making? Well here is your chance to speak exclusively with an award winning Canadian Saffron Producer and an Artisan Chocolatier from the Rolling Hills of Northumberland County.

Come stay at your choice of one of the Windswept B&Bs (Emilyville Inn, Hastings House B&B or Windswept on the Trent). We have a price point for everyone.

Day One arrive at your respective B&B at 4pm and enjoy a locally sourced Charcuterie Board with a complimentary glass of wine or bottle of locally crafted beer relax then at 7pm enjoy a three course dinner at your respective B&B or let us recommend a restaurant..

Day 2 wake up to a fresh hot breakfast then head out to the wonderful Village of Warkworth where you can treat yourself to the local shops in Warkworth and have a bite to eat for Lunch at one of the local eateries.

After Lunch you will meet up with Angela at Centre and Main Chocolates and Martin from True Safron and treat yourself to a private and exclusive chat with the Producers about single origin Chocolate and True Saffron! – Chocolate is like fine wine. As cacao grows indifferent parts of the world, it develops different flavours, influenced by it “terroir”. Explore the distinct flavours of fine single origin chocolates from Ecuador to Vietnam with several stops in between, in a guided tasting exploration with award-winning chocolatier, Angela Roest of Centre and Main Chocolate. You’ll lear about the history, geography and nuanced flavours of chocolate in this behind-the-scenes chocolate experience.

Day 3 wake up to a fresh hot breakfast then gather your belongings for your trip home.

A bit about the Producers:

True Saffron Producers Inc. produce Saffron, the most expensive spice in the world, known as Red Gold, from certified organic bulbs in untreated, unsprayed, pristine land amidst the rolling hills of Northumberland County.  Our 2017 Harvest, only our second, was recently subjected to laboratory analysis according to the International Organization for Standardization criteria - ISO 3632 and was evaluated to be among the very best in the world, Grade I.  Our saffron even exceeded these norms and now proudly surpasses the very highest rating awarded by 45.5 points in Flavour and by 116.4 points in Colour (antioxidants).

 

Centre and Main is an artisan chocolate company based in Warkworth, Ontario.  We hand craft our creations in small batches, starting with the finest, ethically-sourced chocolate.  Then, the science of cacao crosses over to the art of gastronomy: spices, herbs, flowers and fruit are the ingredients we use to craft new flavour combinations that are daring and delicious.  Using ingredients sourced locally and from across the globe, we bring cacao to meet your modern cravings.

 

CHOCOLATE  –  A Taste

Whisk yourself away for a 2 day Golfer’s Dream Experience!

Book your choice of Windswept B&B’s (Windswept on the Trent, Hastings House B&B or the Emilyville Inn)

Day 1

• Arrive at 2pm to your B&B location and enjoy a tasty charcuterie board and a glass of wine.
• 3pm Head out to Windswept on the Trent for a pre-dinner boat ride
• 4:30 enjoy an exclusive scotch or wine tasting before enjoying a flattened BBQ chicken dinner with all the fixings from the local markets in the area (extra cost applies for scotch or wine tasting)
• 6pm dinner and enjoy the sunset over the Trent River.

Day 2

• Breakfast at your B&B then off to the Warkworth Golf Course for a round of 9 or 18 holes
• After your round of Golf enjoy dinner at one of the restaurants in Trent Hills (let us make the reservation for you).

Day 3

• Enjoy a hot Breakfast before you head home.

Golfer's One Day Adventure

Arrive at the golf course for your appointed Tee time

Enjoy your round of 18 holes or 9 holes

Arrive at your B&B to freshen up then join us at Windswept on the Trent for an exclusive scotch and/or wine tasting (Additional cost extra and will be confirmed with order), with a charcuterie board.  As well you will enjoy a flattened BBQ Chicken dinner with all the fixings.

Windswept Adult Day Camp Experience

June – October 15 Available Monday – Thursday

Minimum of 6 guests

Day 1

• Noon arrival at your selected B&B ( Emilyville Inn, Hastings House or Windswept on the Trent) unload and freshen up then head out to Windswept on the Trent where……
• Your adventure begins with an informative Boat Ride around Hardy and Slaughter Island, keep an eye out for Bald Eagles, Loons and more. Don’t forget your camera!
• Canoe over to Oak Island for a shore lunch
• Enjoy a scavenger hunt around Oak Island, canoe back to Windswept on the Trent where you can enjoy some free time.

Savour (A self-guided tour)

Year-round- Available Monday – Thursday

Day 1

• Noon Arrive at your selected B&B (Emilyville Inn, Hastings House or Windswept on the Trent) www.windswept.ca  to unload and prepare for your afternoon adventure with a charcuterie board.
•  Savour Donuts, Chocolate, Cheese and Beer on a self-guided tour.
• Return to Windswept on the Trent to enjoy dinner on the verandah and relax and guess the time of the sunset over the Trent River before retiring to your B&B.
•  
• Background Donuts – Doohers Bakery and must stop
•   Chocolate stop in at the Factory Outlet store for World’s Finest Chocolate
•   Cheese visit Empire Cheese
• Beer – Church Key Brewery – taste award winning craft beer in this former 1878 Methodist Church

Hiking Trail Enthusiasts

Spring, Summer, Fall (self-directed hikes)

Day 1

• Arrive at your selected B&B 3-4pm (Emilyville Inn, Hastings House or Windswept on the Trent)  Freshen up after your drive - Enjoy a charcuterie board and a glass of wine.
• Try one of our local restaurants or let us cater dinner at your B&B call for a quote 705-632-1405

Day two

• Breakfast at your respective B&B then off to Hike the Trans Canada Trail between Hastings and Campbellford with a gourmet packed picnic lunch.

• Arrive at the Emilyville Inn for your second night stay. We will drive you back to get your car, before you head out to dinner.

Windswept 16km Bike & Boat Adventure

This leisurely 3 hour bike and boat tour starts at Windswept on the Trent. A short ride on County Road 30 will take us to paved country roads with rolling hills. The experience will include riding near lush forested areas and farm fields. Stop to get photographs of sculptures in a field or see many farm animals. At the end of the bike journey we will be taken back to Windswept by boat. The Captain has a vast knowledge of the area including stories about Al Capone and what the use of the land by the Indigenous peoples of the area. Cost includes a guide, a packed lunch, a charcuterie board for the group at the end, complimentary beer, protein. This adventure requires a minimum of 4 people.

Bike Tour 'Round Rice

Tour or hardcore ride? Your choice, we will decide before the event

A 4-6 hour Bike Tour leaving from Hastings House B&B. First,  we head into farm country alongside Rice Lake, the views are wonderful with Rice Lake popping into view throughout the ride. Summer ride will showcase lush green fields and mixed forest for a true countryside experience. A fall ride on this route will be through a kaleidoscope of colour. A quick stop in Bewdley for nutrition/bio break will be well deserved. Nutrition and beverages will be available when we return to Hastings House B&B. This ride will be predominately county roads with low traffic volumes and with mixed pavement types. With approximately 1000 meters of climbing so you will need a good fitness base. Support is provided if required. Power bars and bananas will be provided for this tour/ride.

Included: guide, bananas, power bars, packed lunch, group charcuterie board, complimentary beer. This adventure requires a minimum of 4 people.

90km Bike Tour - Cordova Mines

This scenic ride will be on paved roads with mostly small elevation changes for a good smooth interval workout.  A couple of smooth assents near the end of the ride will ensure we will be able to enjoy those carbs we will consume at the end of the ride with no guilt. There is a short ride on County Rd. 30 to Havelock then we transition onto paved side roads with lush forests and great scenery. We will take some time to explore the historic Cordova Mines - marmorahistory.ca/cordova and have a nutrition and bio break. Food and beverages will be served when we return to Windswept on the Trent. Support is provided if required. Power bars and bananas will be provided for this tour/ride. Included: guide, bananas, power bars, packed lunch, group charcuterie board, complimentary beer.

This adventure requires a minimum of 4 people. Duration: 4-6 hours

BISON & ALPACAS

July-November- Available Sat-Sun

• Arrive 1 pm at your selected Windswept location (windswept on the Trent, Hastings House B&B or the Emilyville Inn.

• 1:30pm head over to the Healey Falls Bison Farm for lunch Bison Burgers and salad and tour the farm see the Bison.

• 3 pm head over to the Alpaca Farm for a wee visit.

• 4 pm head out on your own for dinner in Campbellford, Hastings or Warkworth or we can cater a meal for you at your respective B&B, ask for a quote or let us make the reservations for you.

This experience runs with a minimum of 4, maximum of  10 people.

COW PAINTING WORKSHOP/FARM ADVENTURE

• 11am Arrive at Windswept on the Trent www.windswept.ca  for your painting adventure. A three hour session – lunch is included.

• 2:30 make your way to a local Dairy Farm and Master Breeder for a tour of the operation (allow 2 hours.)

• 4:30 head to your selected B&B to check in. Let us make reservations at a local restaurant for dinner call us for recommendations 705-632-1405

Duration: Painting 3 hours, Farm tour allow 2 hours

A Farm Experience

This experience runs with maximum of 10 people

July-November- Available Sat-Sun

 

Day 1

• 11am Arrive at your selected B&B (Emilyville Inn, Hastings House or Windswept on the Trent) www.windswept.ca  to unload and prepare for your afternoon adventure.
• Noon make your way to either Windswept on the Trent or our Windswept centre and settle in to paint your very own Cow Picture. A three hour session
• Return to Windswept on the Trent to enjoy dinner on the verandah or in the Water Tower and relax and guess the time of the sunset over the Trent River before retiring to your B&B.

Day 2

• Relaxing Breakfast at your B&B with some free time. Hike the Rotary Trail, see the Ranney Gorge Suspension Bridge.
• 11:30 head over to the Healey Falls Bison Farm for lunch Bison Burgers and salad and tour the farm see the Bison.
• 1:30 head over to the Alpaca Farm for a wee visit.
• 3:00 head over to the Kingsway Farms for a tour of their operation as world class breeders
• 5 pm head out on your own for dinner in Campbellford, Hastings,  Havelock or Warkworth.

Trent Hills is pleased to be the year-round home of Westben’s Centre for Connection and Creativity through Music, via the Westben Barn and the Clock Tower. As well Trent Hills has the Ah Centre in nearby Warkworth, throughout the summer check out one of many venues that offer great food and music, along with our various festivities in all of Trent Hills (Campbellford, Hastings and Warkworth). Plus do not forget to check out the bounty of the County via our farmer’s markets.
